Sandra Portocarrero

I'm an Assistant Professor of Management at the London School of Economics and Political Science

I am a sociologist who studies diversity work, organizational diversity initiatives, and undocumented entrepreneurship.

Up until today, I have observed and examined the organizational lives of diversity workers in a U.S. public university, students from low-income backgrounds who entered an elite university in Latin America through a diversity initiativeU.S. Department of State Foreign Service Officers who hold a diversity fellowship, undocumented entrepreneurs in California, and asylum seekers who become entrepreneurs and who are periodically displaced from one New York City shelter to the other.

I was trained at Columbia Sociology, where I earned my Ph.D. I also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Columbia Business School. I hold a B.A. in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley. Prior to Berkeley, I was a community college student at Berkeley City College. I’m a Latina U.S. citizen, living as an immigrant in London.
